How The Savings Calculator Works
The calculator compares what you pay now against the cheapest equivalent bundle on the market for the same amount of data. You tell it roughly how much you spend and how much data you get each month, and it works out your current cost per gigabyte. It then matches that against the lowest cost per gigabyte in our monthly price research and shows the difference as a monthly and yearly saving.
The result is an estimate, not a quote. It assumes you can use the bundle type that is cheapest, including night data where that applies. If you cannot shift usage overnight or you need wider coverage, your real saving may be smaller. We deliberately keep the maths transparent so you can sanity check it against your own bill.
What To Do With Your Result
If the calculator shows a meaningful saving, the next step is to check coverage for the cheaper network at your home and work, then move across using free number portability. If the saving is small, you are probably already on a competitively priced bundle and switching may not be worth the effort. Either way you now know where you stand instead of guessing.
Remember that the cheapest bundle on paper is not always the best fit. Coverage, bundle validity and whether you can use night data all affect the real value, so treat the saving figure as a starting point for your decision rather than the final word.

How we collect and verify these prices
Every price on DataCheck ZA is taken directly from the official prepaid data pages of Vodacom, MTN, Telkom, Cell C and Rain, then cross checked against pricing coverage on mybroadband.co.za and businesstech.co.za. We review every network at the start of each month and after any public price announcement.
DataCheck ZA is independent and based in the Eastern Cape. We are not owned by any network and we earn nothing when you choose one provider over another. Our only goal is to show the true cost per gigabyte so you can decide for yourself. Spotted a price that looks wrong? Tell us on our contact page and we will recheck it.
Savings Calculator FAQs
How accurate is the saving estimate?
It is a close estimate based on current market prices and the figures you enter. It assumes you can use the cheapest available bundle type. Your real saving depends on coverage in your area and whether you can use night data, so treat it as a guide rather than a guaranteed amount.
Does the calculator sell me anything?
No. DataCheck ZA is an independent comparison tool. We do not sell data or take commission. The calculator simply shows you the gap between what you pay and the cheapest option so you can decide for yourself.
What information do I need to use it?
Just two things: roughly how much you spend on data each month and roughly how much data you get for that. You do not need to enter any personal details, your number or any account information.
Will switching really save me that much?
Often yes, especially if you are on a premium network and use a lot of data. The biggest savings come from moving heavy users off the most expensive bundles. Always confirm coverage on the cheaper network before you switch.
